How to Help Volunteer with Magnificat

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Magnificat and joining our supportive community. There are so many meaningful ways you can make a difference through Magnificat!

Register as a volunteer to accept our waivers. Then learn about our programs as we learn about your skills and experience.

Since 1968, Magnificat Houses has proved to be an alternative to the streets by sheltering, clothing, feeding and providing mental health support and spiritual guidance to men and women – of all mental abilities, social backgrounds, religions and cultures – as they rebuild their lives in our community.

Please note: Loaves & Fishes Soup Kitchen is currently paused while we make plans to build a brand new, modern Loaves & Fishes in Midtown. The Loaves & Fishes resources are still being put to good use, feeding our residents and Clubhouse members. The new building will serve as a cornerstone of our vision for a centralized midtown campus for Magnificat Houses, Inc (MHI) that will bring together housing, services, and a state-of-the-art food kitchen.

We need volunteers right now to help us with all our programs, so please take a look at our full list of current volunteer opportunities.

Most opportunities are Monday-Friday, 1-4 hours sometime between 8:30 am and 3:30 pm. We also have a few Saturday opportunities.

Each person must register and accept our waivers before scheduling a role and time to volunteer.

How to Help New Opportunities

Meals at RoseMary's Place

We have a range of programs and volunteer opportunities. Please consider donating meals and distributing them at RoseMary's Place.

This is our long-term supportive housing facility for 149 residents for an alternative to the streets. It's a fresh start and a supportive environment for those in need, providing dignified housing for the population dealing with homelessness. There is no central kitchen or meal service there. Food insecurity is a major issue so volunteers can have a huge impact.

  • We usually see 30-40 residents participate.
  • The food needs to be packed to-go, although some residents may stay to chat and eat there in the common area.
  • It can be a simple breakfast, a bag lunch, or a hearty meal. There are some residents who don't eat pork, only a few vegetarians. Meals can be simple or as generous as you like. That's up to you. Just let us know what to expect.
  • We suggest choosing an hour to serve, starting at 9 am, Noon, or 3 pm.
  • Volunteer food servers should cover their hair with a hat or hair net.
    Weekdays meals are always needed.
  • We need all adults attending to register on our website and accept our waivers. Adults sign for children under 18. https://mhihouston.org/register-to-volunteer/
  • We can discuss available dates when you're ready. Volunteer once, or on a regular schedule

Volunteers can also offer food at our residence houses, Moran Intake Center, and Dale Carnegie Apartments.

Who We Are

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.
