The Amazing Shared Bread Crew: Weekly Heroes at RoseMary’s Place
You know what I absolutely love? Consistency with heart. And that’s exactly what we get every single week from our incredible Shared Bread volunteers at RoseMary’s Place.
Picture this: It’s Tuesday morning. Three amazing people show up with grins on their faces and arms full of goodies. Week after week, like the most wonderful kind of clockwork you could ask for. These folks are the real deal!
If you’ve been following our journey, you might have met this fantastic trio from our Loves & Fishes days. Back then, they’d show up in bigger groups, twice a week, ready to tackle absolutely anything: cooking, serving, cleaning, you name it. They brought that special mix of helping hands and genuine connection that just makes your heart happy.
Things look a little different now at RoseMary’s Place, but the magic is still there. Our Shared Bread friends have scaled down to this tight-knit group of three, and honestly? They’re crushing it. They come in, roll up their sleeves, and get to work assembling the most thoughtful lunch bags: sandwiches, chips, and always something sweet. Because who doesn’t need a little treat, right?
Out of our 130+ residents, about 30 are typically around to grab these lunches. Here’s what gets me: every single one lights up when they see what’s been prepared with such care. The food is much better than average, sure, but it’s that genuine support and connection that really makes the difference.

When I asked the group about the name they chose, their answer was as solid and clear as could be: “That’s what we’re all about. Sharing what we have with those who need it. Breaking bread together.” Just perfect.
Do you want to join this awesome lunch-making movement? We’d love to hear from you! Just drop us a line at volunteers@mhihouston.org and let’s chat about how you can spread some lunch love too.
Because at the end of the day, it’s all about sharing what we have and breaking bread together. You know it’s true, there’s always room for more amazing people at this table.
