Ms. Amy’s Story
My Life Story
When I turned 50, my life suddenly came to a halt. I faced depression and even homelessness, navigating the streets while feeling more connected to those in similar circumstances than ever before. I found myself in a relationship that began positively, but it turned abusive, and I internalized the belief that I deserved it. For far too long, I had felt worthless, unwanted, and unloved.
However, my experiences in homeless life taught me resilience and strength. I finally stood up to my abuser, called the police, and saw him arrested. In that moment, I reclaimed my life and felt truly alive.
As the years passed, I decided to secure a job and buy a house, slowly rebuilding my self-confidence with determination not to look back. I understood that dwelling on the past could lead me back to homelessness. It has been a long and challenging journey to hold my head high and find joy.
Discovering the St. Joseph Clubhouse has been a turning point for me; it has filled my life with happiness and provided a sense of peace. Here, I have found a family that supports and uplifts one another. I wholeheartedly believe in the Clubhouse because it’s where I’ve been led to find hope. I pray here, contribute when I can, and work at the front desk, welcoming others into this incredible community.
The Clubhouse is a true family for us all.
