Domestic Violence Awareness Month
October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Magnificat Houses, Inc. was proud to partner with the Houston Resource and Education Center for Domestic Violence (HREC4DV) to bring education and awareness to our community.
The HREC4DV team visited our Guest Advancement Center twice this month to teach our clients about the warning signs and risks of domestic violence and to share how they support survivors through their comprehensive programs.
Founded in 2019, HREC4DV is dedicated to empowering individuals affected by domestic violence through services that include educational programs, financial coaching, legal referrals, trauma-informed support groups, and essential resources. Their mission is to help survivors achieve equity and economic independence, while their vision is a future where every person impacted by domestic violence has the support, confidence, and community to live free from abuse – emotionally healed, spiritually restored, and economically empowered.
Domestic violence remains a critical issue, affecting millions each year. Nearly 36% of women and 29% of men experience abuse by an intimate partner in their lifetime, and in Texas alone, hundreds of lives are lost annually. Demand for shelters and support services continues to grow, highlighting the urgent need to raise awareness, support survivors, and work together to prevent abuse in every community.
